Demolition action was taken on the house and hotel of property dealer Rajiv Rana, the main accused in the firing and vandalism case over a plot on Bareilly’s Pilibhit bypass. With this, his influence collapsed. Rajiv Rana, who belonged to an ordinary family, travelled from rags to riches due to the influence of his close associates in power and his influence in the police and administration. Rana earned a big name in the property business and built an empire which fell apart like a pack of cards as soon as his grip on power weakened.
People associated with the property business say that Rana’s father used to work as a palledaari in Shyamganj Mandi. Rajiv Rana was used to dreaming big from the very beginning. After studying and then doing small jobs, he started the property business with youngsters of his age. Some of these friends became contractors and then shined in politics, and Rana’s business started growing at a rapid pace day and night.
He set up the officers of the concerned departments with his influence and money and established a monopoly in the land business. Now for some time, his chances of power were getting weak. This was the reason why he was not able to take possession in this case. On 22 June, with the help of his henchmen, he tried to take possession of the plot on the side of Pilibhit bypass. The henchmen fired indiscriminately on the road. This illegal method backfired on him.
